Julie Hammonds, AICP is a certified professional planner with four years of experience in the Alaska Coastal Management Program. From 1997 to 2001, she worked with communities from Ketchikan to the North Slope Borough as they prepared and implemented their coastal management programs. She is experienced at assisting communities to develop locally appropriate plans and policies that conserve important natural resources while fostering appropriate economic development in the coastal zone.

Julie also has three years of experience as a California land use planning consultant. In this capacity, she prepared environmental impact studies and initial studies and presented them to decision makers. Her clients included cities, counties, and school districts who wanted to plan ahead for anticipated growth.

A skilled communicator with experience in public outreach and information, Julie served as lead editor and as a feature writer for the ACMP newsletter Coastal Currents, and as a writer and editor for the ACMP Guidebooks series. Having worked for two years as a public information officer, she is familiar with the challenges and opportunities involved in educating the public about government programs and services.

Julie holds a degree in conservation and resource studies from the University of California, Berkeley and is a member of the American Planning Association..
